Healthy Air. Healthy Home.
According to the National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA), the average six-room house creates 40 pounds of dirt, dust, and allergens each year, and a good amount of that winds up in the ductwork. Dust can host unhealthy bacteria, fungi, and mold and as a result, the air inside your home can be two to five times more polluted than outdoor air. This air circulates through your home every time the heating or air conditioning kicks on.
The Results Speak For Themselves
In a study conducted in 1990-91, Robert Garrison and Larry Robertson of Mycotech Biological, Inc. designed a protocol for an independent, controlled study of the duct-cleaning process. Ultimately, the results of the study demonstrated a 98% reduction in airborne contaminants from vents in summer phase, a 91% reduction from vents in winter phase, and an 84% reduction in regard to return air ducts only. According to Louise Bethea, M.D., P.A., Board Certified Allergist and Immunologist from Houston, TX, this is good news for allergy sufferers. She says that the study result indicates dramatically that air duct cleaning by a qualified commercial firm does indeed provide relief from airborne molds, one of the most common allergens.
Ductwork—The Lungs of Your Home
Think of the ductwork as the lungs of your home, if your lungs are full of dust and debris it’s going to be hard to breathe but if the passageways are clean a deep breath of air actually feels great! Considering most people spend 90% of their time indoors it makes sense to be proactive about our indoor air quality. If you or anyone in your home suffers from allergies or asthma, it would be a smart idea to get your air ducts cleaned on a regular basis.
